Balti Triangle

from £12.00

Welcome to Birmingham, home of the Balti!

The Balti was created in Birmingham in the mid 1970s when Pakistani residents created a dish inspired by their traditional Kashmiri recipes, but which appealed to the Western palate. The word ‘balti’ means ‘bucket’ in Urdu and refers to the flat bottomed two-handled pan in which the curry is cooked. Baltis are typically accompanied by naan bread, sometimes available as giant sharing flatbreads which are suspended from a custom-made hanger on the restaurant table.

The Balti Triangle is an area of Balti houses located along Ladypool Road, Stoney Lane and Stratford Road, to the south of the city centre.

The rich reds, ochres and browns in this colourway are evocative of the spices used in Asian cooking and which are an essential ingredient in a Balti.
